or "my lunch is too boring to waste time eating, so i will post instead"
I had a busy, busy weekend. (Oh ya, kinda like everyone else.)
On Friday night i waited in the slums of Surrey for SisterSteph (my half sister, not a nun. she was christened this so as not to confuse her with FriendSteph). She took a greyhound down from Whistler and skytrained into Surrey, where i picked her up just after 10pm. JM was a sweetheart and talked to me the whole time.
Saturday, i stayed in bed until almost noon. It was a beautiful thing. We stopped to feed my sister's fish since she was away and then headed through Surrey (yet again, cringe) to pick up Cass.
I got her to drive us in her new Acura to the states and left poor, crippled Sylvia with Cass's husband to drive to work. (Very funny considering the leak in the exhaust is very loud and embarassing! Teehee)
I bought magical pillows at Costco and cheap cases at WalMart and spent way too much time and money at Bellis Fair. By the time we got back to our home and native land, (after throwing away packaging and shoving receipts into our underwear), my fam from Kelowna had arrived. Since my mom's pillow was in her luggage that is still lost in the Greyhound abyss, i brought her a new one.
Mom: Did this pillow case come with the pillow? [Implication: why isn't there plastic wrapping here?]
Me: No, the pillow case is from WalMart. We didn't want the border guard to suspect we weren't declaring things.
Mom: You're giving me a smuggled pillow?!
Me: Don't ask. Do you want the pillow or not? [Suppressed bwahahaha]
*Disclaimer: i don't think this is exactly the same pillow, but the costco site, where the exact pillow is located, is down.

roooaaarrrr!
my roar is twofold:
1) my tummy is trying to ingest itself because i am so hungry. i got up at 5:45 to go to the gym this morning. (yay me). i didn't have anything edible in my house, so i grabbed some pb and crackers for lunch and some fruit. i have to slowly pace my eating though b/c sylvia didn't come with me to work today, so i can't run out to stock up before the end of the day. hopefully anika will come and rescue me and drive me home and tell me all about her first day. her training is literally two minutes away from me!! this is very exciting, considering the fact that our offices used to be over an hour apart.
2) i watched "little miss sunshine" last weekend. twice. haha. it was even funnier the second time. i didn't plan on watching it twice; friday night it was planned, with my sister and auntie, and on saturday it was the only decent moving starting by the time we got to the theatre. this was due to the fact that we went downtown to Las Margaritas for dinner. if you are ever in vancouver and even remotely like mexican food, you must eat here.
oh, and one other thing i did this weekend: freeze corn. i have never done it by myself before, usually my mom and/or sisters help. but this year, i was all by my onesie. i ended up with two sacs of corn (5 doz. ea.) and got started at 10am. it took me six hours to shuck, boil, cut, and bag 120 ears of corn. needless to say, i was exhausted by the end of the day, but at least i have lots of corn now! enough to share with my fam who was too busy to do it themselves.
As a side note, yes, i realize that Green Giant is available and cheap. However, i am a corn snob b/c my uncle grows the sweetest corn evah and it's soooo good, hence the six hour process.

thank God
I was on my way to see Little Miss Sunshine last night when Sylvia decided to die. Sorta. I was driving along, minding my own business (alright, maybe not, but still...) and all of a sudden the accelerator wouldn't work, all my guages dropped, but my radio was still going strong and my lights weren't faded. So i did what any independent, competant woman would do-- i phoned JM.
Since i am not quite the brilliant mechanic that he is, i couldn't figure out what was wrong with my poor girl. JM's parents came to rescue me. It wasn't the battery, but my oil was almost empty again. Next i phoned Anika, who rescued me with her BCAA number. (Thank youuuu Aaaaaanika!)
After towing the car to a mechanic, JM's parents dropped me off at my head office where i signed out a work van to get to work. (<-- This was JM's bright idea; mine was to stay home b/c i didn't have a car! doh). This morning i had to go switch vans b/c the one i took needed new shocks and could quite possible injure my fragile clients!
Last night, i texted my sister about my car problems. She was on her way to Saskatchewan with her son and our parents to visit the grandparents. This morning i was woken up by this text: "Hey jane. Just an update... We rolled the van just after 4 alberta time but we are all okay more or less-- a few cuts and bruises. Will call when we know more."
WHAT THE...?!?! more information puhleeeease!
After a flurry of texts and phone calls, my panicky self was calmed. I'm sure Kare is trying to downplay it so i don't stress out, because the van is totally written off. It rolled one and a half times, so they landed up-side-down.
Thankfully everyone was buckled in, because if not they would have gone flying out the shattered windows with everything else that wasn't tied down. I asked Kare if my nephew was crying and she replied, "Well, he wasn't too impressed with hanging up-side-down while i tried to get my self undone and then get him out." Seriously! How horrific would that be?! I shudder just thinking about it.
I nice truck driver (yay truck drivers!) called 911 and the ambulance came to take them to the hospital, even though no one was seriously injured. So, this morning (after not sleeping all night), my crazy family rented a car and continued on their trip. Ay-ya-Yi!
I thank God that they are all safe. And will continue to pray for them until i hear they have arrived. :)

These are flowers i brought to my nana's grave last week. My dearest Maria let me take them from her papa's garden. I think my nana would have liked them. For her 50th anniversary, my auntie asked nana what flowers she wanted and my nana couldn't decide because she just loved them all and all different colors. What a cutie pie. My apologies for the dirty railing, but isn't Frogerta so cute?! She is actually bright neon green and quite a thoughtful little reptile. Every night when i go home, there she is, sitting on the window of my front door, checking to make sure i get home alright. I was so happy to see her when i got home from Edmonton. I took this picture on my razr at ten-to-seven this morning. Donny thought i should put her in an aquarium and keep her inside so she doesn't get eaten or starve during the winter. Aren't frogs supposed to hibernate or something? I just want what's best for my quiet, sweet little fribbiter.*
*i am referring to Frogerta here, but i also want what's best for j ;)
loose ends
or "a few completely unrelated thought trains"
1. I will not homeschool my children. Why would i, with great teachers like Jess and Ani's mom, etc. No, i just don't feel it's justifiable to torture people you love like that. End of discussion.
2. Noen... hmmm, what to say. I hung out with him a couple of times this weekend, but it's just, i dunno... for one thing, he takes everything i say literally, which drives me nuts b/c i am the queen of sarcasm and exaggeration and i don't like explaining everything. Also, he's very cynical and negative sometimes, and lets be honest, no one likes that. And he doesn't like country music. Pfff! "isaygooddaytoyou!"
But, of course, i have to be nice and stay friends with him b/c it would be mean and selfish to write someone off b/c your commitment-phobic ex has suddenly grown up and declared that he cannot live without you.
3. If anyone else conveys the following message (or one close to it, or one that could be interpreted as such) to me, i will smack their faces without remorse: "if you're planning to get married next year, you'd better hit the gym hard." Now, i realize it's annoying when people say things about their weight for the sole purpose of hearing people reaffirm them; I am not doing that. I am quite comfortable with how i look and was royally p.o.'d the first, second, and third time i heard that yesterday. I'm not even engaged, leave me alone!! However, i still dragged my butt to the gym at 6:10 this morning. Now who's the moron... haha, oh well.
4. Jessica visited me, subconsciously, last night. (Sorry for being creepy jess and not checking with you before posting, but it's your own fault- you shouldn't enter other people's dreams). I don't know what she was doing in Vancouver, but it doesn't really matter-- she was here! and that's what counts. And then, for some odd reason i shall never fathom, we went to Montreal and stayed at the Ritz. (This could be due to the fact that Cass really did just go to Montreal and stayed at the Ritz). Thankfully, there were no frenchmen to turn the dream into a nightmare. Of course, we had the funnest time ever, which means that when Jess and all our other IIFs come up here, we will have SO MUCH FUN!!!

edmonton
(sans pictures. sorry, i don't have a digital. and besides, we were having too much fun to stop and take pictures).
As you know, i am back from the City of Champions. I went to see JM on Thursday afternoon and stayed until Tuesday afternoon. It was just perfect-- except too short. I will give you a very brief overview (minus the scandals, lol):
Thursday night we ate at Mongoli Grill then went home and watched movies.
Friday we went to the mall and shopped till we dropped and then went on rides.
Saturday we went boating all day!!! Wheeee!
Sunday we went to his itty-bitty church (only 20 people, including us-- and i knew 2 people from Langley!), ate sushi for lunch, drove around the UofA campus that i might go to, napped, watched movies and ate (of course!).
Monday we went back to the mall, ate at Tony Roma's, watched movies and complained about still being sore from wakeboarding on saturday.
Tuesday morning i had to get ready to come back home. :(
I missed him in advance, even before i left. -sigh- He is coming home for Thanksgiving!! (Oct. 9, which also happens to be his b-day!). One month and counting...

produce? preservatives?
so far today, i have connected with three of my clients. (it is not lunch time).
so far today, i have been given: big ripening italian tomatoes, plump juicy grapes, and sweet gooey apricot jam.
ahhhh, the fringe benefits of this job definitely make up for the grumpy gus-ses i deal with. :)

tooooooomorrowwwww...

tomorrow, tomorrow, i love ya, tomorrow. it's only a day awaaaaaaaay!
Yes, my dearests, i am leaving for Edmonton tomorrow. Who'dda thunk? I am very excited to go spend the weekend with JM- boating, eating, shopping, going on rides, watching movies, and just playing. I will let you know how it goes.
In other news, i am a somniac.
On Saturday, i was gone all day for a wedding. On Sunday, i went to the PNE with my sister. On Monday i was in Seattle* with my Grandpa. On Tuesday i was very tired.
My lack of sleep left me flushed, headachey, nauseous, and slightly irritable (A). It was almost 6:30 when i got home from work, so after leaving a message for my friend Joel who i was supposed to hang out with, i decided to lay down for a few minutes... (famous last words...)
I got out of bed at 7 a.m. this morning feeling refreshed and oh-so-chipper! Seriously people, everyone should be entitled to 12 hours in bed at least once a month; it's a beautiful thing.
On my lunch break, i went and had my hairy-scary-bear-legs (as well as my upper-lip, but we don't really need to dwell on that delicate fact, now do we) waxed and felt the need to indulge by boooking a cheap pedicure for after work tonight. Ahhhh, i am feeling relaxed already.
*Shari, i was not neglecting you... we met up with out-of-town relatives and went to the Mariner's game. If i was with Sylvia, i would have come to see you again. Next time for sure!! :)

i like to eat butter
or "everything-bagels are gross" (especially when toasted and cold)
Here are 70 things you probably don't care to know about me, along with maybe one you do. Thank you Marianne and Nikol for tempting me to waste my free time (and now yours! heehee) writing this post.
Ever cheated on a boy/girlfriend? Ya I kissed a boy while I was seeing someone else, but since neither wanted a committed relationship, it’s their own fault! (and I told them both)
Ever been cheated on? Yup. jerkfaces.
Did you lose a loved one this year? Yes, but only one—much better than last year.
Do you agree with abortion? No way.
What are your views on the war in Iraq? Ditto to Nikol: “There will always be war, there has always been war. It is a constant, and I am lucky to be a citizen of a country [that is neighbours with a country] that will protect me and my family from harm.” parenthesis my own J
How do you want to die? Peacefully, maybe in my sleep?
What is the worst way to die? Scared.
Have you ever been backstabbed by a best friend? Sad, but true.
What's one thing you regret doing? Being ugly to people who love me.
Recall the time you were badly injured: My heart was broken when I was 14.
What are you worried about right now? Making good decisions (marriage, school, job, etc.)
What do you think of global warming? Yikes.
Do you care about pollution? Oh yes! I would almost be tempted to become a tree-hugger, except that I don’t like granola that much and I enjoy washing my hair. But I’m an avid recycler and drive a compact car.
What pet of yours was the last to die? –sigh- my fish, Esmeralda, last Friday.
Do you cry when your pets die? Esmeralda was more of a decoration than a pet. I would cry if Harley (puppy) died, and I cried in sixth grade when my bird died.
Would you ever consider plastic surgery? Nope. I don’t think my world vision kids should go without so I can look different.
What's one thing about yourself that you don’t like? Hm, I’m rather undisciplined.
What's one thing you want to ask somebody but can’t? Will you puuuuhleeeease marry me, even if you aren’t that crazy about me?!
Do you have feelings for anybody but they don't know it? Yes, but I tried to tell him once; he thought I was joking.
My pedestal crush (pc) was asking me about this idiot, brian, who thought I was in love with him. I was like, “No, pc, I promise you, I don’t like brian.”
pc: well then who do you like
me: YOU! (thinking, “why not? he asked!”)
pc: (nervous chuckle) no, really
me: No, really!
pc: (more nervous laughter)
awkward pause… he doesn’t believe me and goes to get more food.
Do you secretly hate one of your 'friends'? It’s not a secret and I don’t think she gets to be on the ‘friends’ list.
Would you marry someone soley for their money? Not a chance. Tempting, but no. I’ve been poor most of my life and it really isn’t all that bad. Besides, what would we do after I spent all his money?! (A)
Do you have a low self-esteem? Na, my mom brainwashed me enough when I was growing up.
Do you usually want things you can’t have? Sadly yes, but more of a “ohhhh, that would be nice” not so much a “GAAAAH, MUST HAVE!”
What do you usually get made fun of for? Short bursts of squeal when boating or watching a movie.
Would you dump your boy/girlfriend if they gained weight? I can safely answer NO to that.
Is it all about looks with you? No, but he can’t make we want to wince when we gaze at each other.
Do you think you’re overweight or too skinny? Voluptuous is better than scrawny. (Oh? that didn’t answer the question? Hm!)
Ever been rushed to the emergency room? No.
If you got pregnant, what would you do? Pray that delivery would be quick and easy.
Have you ever gotten drunk and did something you regret? Nope
Do you believe in God and/or Satan? Without a doubt. I wouldn’t be here if God didn’t exist because, oh ya, He created me.
Do people push their religious beliefs on you? Not so much, I think I’m pretty grounded and don’t usually have problems saying no. (or ‘bugger off’ if necessary)
When is the last time you cried? Last Friday when Sylvia almost died due to my negligence.
Ever loved someone so much it hurt? Yes, but I guess that’s just the way things are.
When was the last time you and your best friend got into a fight? Last night, we were fighting over what ice cream flavour to buy. Then we fought over which bridal magazine to get (very important since neither one of us is engaged… oh, wait a minute, maybe not so important then… oh well.)
Do people talk about you behind your back? Of course, but since I’m fascinating and they’re boring, I won’t hold it against them.
Did you ever make yourself throw-up? I’ve tried, but haven’t been successful. In high school I drank milk and mustard (it doesn’t work and tastes nasty, don’t try it!) so I could stay home. And once I accidentally ate too much and wanted some of it out. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
Did you ever try and starve yourself? No, although I fasted for 8 days once.
Do your parents critique your looks? No way, they think I am totally beautiful. But they would speak up if they thought I was wearing something too immodest. (Don’t blame them, I’m their baby!)
Do your parents approve of you life choices? Ya, they tell me that they are proud of me all the time.
Do you think in some cases that cheating is acceptable? Never.
Did you ever say 'I love you' and DIDN`T mean it? I will again quote the great Nikol: “It depends how you look at it. I have loved everyone I’ve said that to…perhaps not in the way that they have wanted me to love them.”
Once a boyfriend told me that he loved me, and I totally wasn’t expecting it and didn’t think I felt the same way so I just awkwardly smiled and replied, “Thank you”
Have you ever been dumped? Shockingly, yes. ;)
Have you ever been used by someone? Ya

What's your motto? Hakuna Matata...?
Here are 70 things you probably don't care to know about me, along with maybe one you do. Thank you Marianne and Nikol for tempting me to waste my free time (and now yours! heehee) writing this post.

Did you ever try and starve yourself? No, although I fasted for 8 days once.
