on a jet plane

I bought the ticket. I am going to visit the ex. Why? you might ask. And to that i answer, "Good question. period." Well, it has been six months since i've played at the fun and exciting mall there, so it will be good fun. In fact, one time we went there (for my dad's third wedding) and didn't leave for three days. We slept, ate, and played inside that surreal place for 72 hours. It was crazy, but good times.*

*As good as can be expected under the circumstances. :)

TGIM

Yes, i know, odd to be thankful for the start of a work week. But thankful i am. This is not only due to the fact that i have a ridiculous amount of work to get done, but also because i could use a break from the strenuous weekend.

I finally took down our last three Christmas trees. *sigh* Now, i realize that Christmas decorations are only supposed to be up from Remembrance Day to Valentine's Day, but i just couldn't help it. This weekend also included catching up on six weeks of recycling, getting the ex's brother to fix our basement, getting ani's man to switch our dryer, cleaning out the fridge (yay anika!), fighting with every other stupid dumb head boy, switching bandwagons halfway through the Langley Hornets hockey game, having Than laugh at me for bringing S&TC dvd's to church-- he could only see the word SEX sticking out of my bag, receiving an invitation to come and meet 'new' people, laughing like none other with my hilarious sm.

It was a great weekend; we got a lot accomplished, had a lot of fun, and started to figure some boy things out. Now if only my knee wasn't all buggered up... Oh well, one outta two ain't bad.

Tiffany!

That's right, my friends, Tiffany & Co has agreed to grace Vancouver with it's presence this fall... just in time for ring shopping*!! Oh. my. gaaawwwwsh. This is so very exciting. What could be better than overpriced rocks that everyone and their dog are going to be buying up?! Hmmm... well anyways, it's still very exciting!

*When Tiffany opens in November, there will be only eight short months until my 7-7-7 wedding date! :)

Uncovering the Undercover

Alright, so i already spend two and a half hours of quality time with Sylvia, my 17 year old beauty of a beast, commuting to work every day. A wrench was thrown into the daily grind last summer when some brilliant transportation planner decided it would be a good idea to put a divider down the middle of a busy road that i cross over to prevent commuters like me from crossing over.

Now, i realize that it's a busy road and that sometimes people aren't careful and accidents do happen. However, the relaxation and comfort that comes from driving through farmland, taking this back road (that crosses over the busy road), is so worth it that now i am forced to make illegal u-turns on a regular basis. I might be badgered into feeling bad about this, except for the fact that every single day i see at least half a dozen other people doing the exact same thing.

Yesterday, on my way home, i turned right (south) at the meridian, but slowed down right away to flip a u-ey (how the heck do you spell u-ie?), blatantly disregarding the large No U-Turn sign. Just as i was about to crank Sylvia's wheel, i noticed a dark blue cougar sitting off on the shoulder, facing northbound. Hmmm, could this be a sneaky cop, trying to catch me?!

Erring on the side of caution, i kept driving (now heading in the opposite direction of my home), irritating the traffic behind me by going so slow and peering creepily into the parked cougar (a la Cruella deVille searching for the dalmations). The man sitting in the driver's seat wasn't wearing a uniform, which made me annoyed because now i was driving the wrong direction for no reason.

Throwing caution to the wind, i decided to turn around after a few hundred feet to assuage my irritation. There is an extremely large shoulder (wider than a lane on the road) on the northbound side, so it was easy for me to turn around. At this point, i had driven halfway up a steep hill, so was much higher than the cougar. My fear and loathing of traffic cops* arrested my continuation and i sat on the side of the road, with my headlights turned off, stunned.

After talking on my cell for a few minutes, i decided to quit being a chicken and continue my commute. As soon as i turned on my headlights and took off the brake, the cougar put his lights on and stepped on his brake! Jamming on my brakes, and turning off my lights again, i was disappointed to see cougar follow suit. Well, this certainly changes things, no?! Naturally i had to sit there for another 2 or 3 minutes, convincing myself to calm down and keep breathing. (Don't laugh, i already explained that i don't. like. cops.)

Instead of flipping another U.E. and running away, i decided to stealthily coast down the hill, closer to the cop. (Lower your eyebrows! I wasn't thinking straight.) After creeping along in this manner, i reached a driveway and made a sharp left. This aligned Sylvia with the driveway, so someone coming upon the scene would assume that we had just come from that property. Biting the bullet (and negotiating with God), i waited for a small break in traffic and darted out. As i sped along past the cougar, i saw: camouflaged blue and red lights in his back window!!

My hunch was right!! He was a cop. Dag nab it, i hate it when i'm right all the time.

Well, luckily, he was looking down at something. I had successfully outwitted the undercover cop. :) Patience is a virtue; and it saved my bacon. Okay, so maybe it was my paralyzing fear, but whatever. All that matters is that i was not busted for my crimes.

I've learned my lesson. I sped like a hellion past the cougar cop and almost ran Sylvia into the ditch trying to turn off the road a few yards** later. And i continued to race away from him the whole way home. This morning i decided to go the longer, more congested way to the highway. Mostly due to the fact that Ani and I agreed it would lean towards obs/comp behaviour to drive back by and check to see if the cop way waiting to spy on me again.

*This extreme dislike can probably be attributed to my ex who had a propensity for psychotic driving, often causing us to get pulled over.
** Did all y'all notice that i used US measurements not once, but twice in this post? I don't really know what they mean, except that at subway a 6" sandwich is more than 15cm. I figured it would be more user-friendly than metric for my south of the border fans.

10-2-2

It's 1:50 and i'm eating my lunch now. This is partly due to the fact that i was busy at lunch time, but also because my faulty reasoning suggested my now-soggy cucumber and cheese sandwhich would be more palatable the hungrier i became. However, my less than stellar math skills did not take into account that the sogginess of my sandwhich was growing along with my hunger pains. *sigh*

I don't even want to talk about the game. But i will say that the refs must be related to the striped boys who officiated the superbowl game.

sorry mom!

(and anybody else who is sensitive about scandelous things)

I feel the need to post this joke for Christine who is not having a most fantastic week, despite the fact that she is a most fantastic girl. (If you work for a law firm around Philly, hire this diva!!)

A guy walks into a psychiatrist’s office wearing only saran wrap. The psychiatrist takes one look at him and declares, “Well, I can clearly see you’re nuts!”

Ba-da-boom! Sorry folks, that's all i got. *shrug*

Grimace

Sad, but true: I have an exploded tastebud.

The thought of having an aphthous ulcer* in my mouth is rather frightening, so i prefer to think of my little friend Grimace exploding. (I was told since i was little that Grimace is a tastebud. Why isn't this common knowledge?!)

Well, here i go to find some Orajel!

*Or, canker sore, as commoners sometimes refer to it as.

i'm so cultured

Last night i went with Mouse and Farhan to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at the Orpheum. Next thing you know, i'll be going to see Pirates of Penzance with borrowed jewellery.

Then again, maybe not. First of all, i waited for rush tickets so we didn't have to pay full price. Next i walked in, and then promptly out, of the nasty pizza place next door. (We were hungry and needed to find something to eat before the concert.) Then, i stumbled and almost fell crossing the road. After a calming London Fog at the nearest Starbucks (there are, at latest count, 67 such coffee shops in the City of Vancouver-- not including any suberbs of course), i was ready to face the symphony.

I think it went quite well, as far as these cultural productions are concerned. I was worried a few times that the violinist was having a seizure, but was informed that she was merely involved in the music. Hm. And i must confess that the director acted like Mickey Mouse in Fantasia-- on drugs! If my band teacher had been that animated, i might still be playing my trumpet.

Weekend Recap

My weekend involved:
-TWO girls nights! yay :)
-Visiting with my mom, sister, and nephew who were here from out of town.
-Hearing about the merits of ring shopping (Yes, clearly i am not bride material since no boy has bought me a ring yet... leave me alone, i'm not even dating!!)
-Returning items to eight stores. Yes, i am aware that i have a shopping disorder.
-Eating at McD's twice in one night. (I don't even like mcdonald's!). Technically, it wasn't the same day though b/c once was at 10:30pm and then not again until 3:30am
-Hearing Anika's bf yell "Everyone get the f*** out of my bar; i have to get up for church in the morning" to the stragglers after closing.
-Celebrating my Granpa's 80th birthday. Happy Birthday Grandpa!

All in all, it was a most fantastic weekend.
